COURSE AIMS

The Pre-CELTA Grammar Course aims to:

• Provide a comprehensive understanding of English grammar, including parts of speech, verb tenses, modality, noun phrases, sentence structures, and lexis, to build a strong linguistic foundation for teaching.
• Develop trainees’ ability to analyse and teach grammar effectively, focusing on form, meaning, use, and pronunciation (MFP) in a classroom context.
• Equip trainees with practical teaching strategies, including the use of concept checking questions (CCQs) and instruction checking questions (ICQs), to enhance learner comprehension and engagement.
• Foster awareness of phonological aspects relevant to grammar teaching, enabling trainees to integrate pronunciation into their lessons.
• Address the influence of learners’ first languages (L1) on English learning, preparing trainees to anticipate and manage challenges in diverse classroom settings.
